Verge Theater is always seeking experienced directors to join our Creative Team. If you’re an experienced director interested in leading one of our productions for Teen Theater or the Mainstage, we’d love to hear from you!

Director Proposals - Now open for the 2026 season!

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: AUGUST 1, 2025!

Additionally, we encourage area directors to submit proposals for their dream musical or play that will engage a wide range of performers and audiences. At Verge Theater, we focus on producing challenging, thought-provoking, and heart-inspiring theater in an intimate and flexible performance and gallery space. 

Verge is seeking an exciting and varied slate of four to six fabulous shows for 2026. For those interested in directing for Verge Theater, note that we are seeking shows that fit in at least TWO of the following categories:

  1. A show that speaks to audiences of all ages

  2. A musical (one per season)

  3. A contemporary, daring, and acclaimed new show of any genre

  4. An original work or classical play with a twist (think Shakespeare, Greek or Roman classics, Oscar Wilde, etc.)

  5. The kind of show that audiences won’t see anywhere else

  1. Project Summary


    Include the play title, a brief synopsis, the author, and a list of characters with their ages, genders, and ethnicities (if applicable).

  2. Your Vision and Why Now?

    Explain why you want to direct this show, at Verge, and at this time. Share a bit about your vision for the production.

  3. Marketing and Outreach Ideas


    How do you plan to promote your show? Do you have ideas for marketing strategies or partnerships with other organizations based on your play’s themes? 

  4. Royalty Costs
 

    Research and include the cost of royalties for the play in your proposal.

  5. Resume and References

    Provide an appropriate resume or bio, along with two to three references.

  6. Production and Technical Needs

    Outline any special or technical needs you anticipate. What are the major production challenges that Verge might face in producing this play in our space, and how will you mitigate or overcome these potential issues?

  7. Production Crew

    If you have specific individuals in mind for key roles (e.g., music director, stage manager, choreographer, designers), please include that information.

  8. Availability and Timeline

    Let us know about any scheduling conflicts or commitments that could affect your availability to direct the play in 2026. When would you like the show to go up?

A Note on Directing for Verge:
Directors who fulfill their contract with Verge will be paid a stipend for their work at the closing of the production. In directing for the Mainstage or Teen Theater, directors must abide by Verge open auditions policies and all procedures for contracted workers. Additionally, directors should note that rehearsal times for Teen Theater will generally be from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm from Monday - Thursday, and weekday evenings after 6:00 and weekends for Mainstage productions.
