Director Proposals

submissions for the 2026 mainstage season will open Monday, January 6, 202

Submissions for Staged Readings are accepted on a rolling basis.

Additionally, we encourage area directors to submit proposals for musicals or plays that will engage a wide range of performers and audiences. At Verge, we focus on producing challenging, thought-provoking, and heart-inspiring theater, always guided by the question: Why this play? Why now?

To apply, please send the following materials as a single Word or PDF attachment, with a total length of no more than four pages, to our Community Outreach Director, Kate Britton:

  1. Project Summary
Include the play title, a brief synopsis, the author, and a list of characters with their ages, genders, and ethnicities (if applicable).

  2. Your Vision and Why Now?
Explain why you want to direct this show, at Verge, and at this time. Share a bit about your vision for the production.

  3. Marketing and Outreach Ideas
How do you plan to promote your show? Do you have ideas for marketing strategies or partnerships with other organizations based on your play’s themes (e.g., Planned Parenthood, Haven)?

  4. Royalty Costs
Research and include the cost of royalties for the play in your proposal.

  5. Resume and References
Provide an appropriate resume or bio, along with two to three references.

  6. Production and Technical Needs
Outline any special or technical needs you anticipate. What are the major production challenges that Verge might face in producing this play in our space, and how will you mitigate or overcome these potential issues?

  7. Production Crew
If you have specific individuals in mind for key roles (e.g., music director, stage manager, choreographer, designers), please include that information.

  8. Availability and Timeline
Let us know about any scheduling conflicts or commitments that could affect your availability to direct the play in 2024-2025. When would you like the show to go up?
